PROFILE

One to One is based in Portland, Oregon, and directed by founder and principal Nicholas Locke (b.1979) . Founded in 2012, the practice has been engaged with multiple teams in architecture, urbanism and interiors across North & South America, Korea and Japan.

APPROACH

One to One strives to make environments where the distinction between architecture, landscape and ecology are a cohesive whole. Embracing collaboration, we work with several other thinkers and makers who share a common respect for the natural world, imagination and quality execution. Amid the many oppositional frameworks of our culture we see furtive potential in the integration of opposites. For each project, which exist across a wide range of scales, One to One explores issues such as spatial systems, building materials/techniques, and renewable energy systems.

ACADEMIC ACTIVITY

Nicholas Locke has taught at multiple Universities at various levels, including Columbia University, Woodbury University, Yonsei University & University of Hawai’i at Manoa. His lectures and seminars investigate continuity in contemporary construction practices in both rural and urban contexts and sustainable material science.
